Before Sunday morning mass, after I've set up everything for the music, I try to allow myself some quiet head-clearing time. During these moments of contemplation a single thought or image will often move to the forefront, becoming a sort of mantra or focal point.
Today, as the sun rose on this Mother's Day, I was thinking of the lilies-of-the-valley that grew around the family house and how we kids would make mini-bouquets of them for the kitchen table.
While lost in my thoughts, the church "flower lady" came around the corner carrying-----what else?-----a bunch of lilies-of-the-valley.
"I picked these for you," she said.
Two quotes on "Coincidence":
"Coincidence is God's way of staying anonymous."
"I'm from Chicago. I don't believe in coincidences."
