Not quite Mary on a grilled cheese sandwich or Jesus on a tortilla, but it's cool.
Now, relax. I'm not going to be selling candles, T-shirts, or coffee mugs. The image is caused when the sun hits the side stained glass window just right.
Another example from the smoke-and-mirrors department: when I open one of the windows in the church at night, the streetlight shines directly on the tabernacle--- just like a spotlight. Now I'm positive the city workers didn't do the math on this one, it just happened.
But that doesn't mean they're not miracles; just ordinary miracles---like the many that are around us every day. I'm still amazed by them, and pause to look at them and, yes, they shine a spiritual light on me.
I'm also stunned by these daily miracles:
When I arrive at the intersection of time, space, and conditions just in time to see a double rainbow or a double sun.
How I've come through a long series of chances and choices to be where I am, working at what I love, and surrounded by incredible people. Explainable? absolutely. Miraculous? Definitely.
The same goes for family and friends. Recently I had dinner with my cousin and her daughter. My cousin has known me all my life; her daughter has known me all her life. In this highly mobile and transient orbit of ours, that's something to pause and to take note of.
Here's a young man I have known all of his life:

Have you ever been talking to someone and suddenly you look deep in that person's eyes and you realize that this person is living, a complicated organism with hopes, dreams and fears, just like you? And the two of you have met? That's pretty awe-inspiring.
And then you meet someone that makes you think of Bright Eyes' lyric:
This is the first day of my life.
I'm glad I didn't die before I met you."
All of these are miraculous occurrences
They might not seem like much to you, but they're signs of blessings and grace to me. And I'm thankful for that presence.
