Scribbles toward a song...

Exercise

Thanks to you I shed a pound of loneliness.
Now that you’re gone, it will be hard to keep it off.
You helped to make my heart a little stronger.
With you gone, I feel it already going soft.

You accepted the gifts I bought you for no reason,
Valentines in October and Christmas in July
You didn’t laugh when I said I loved you.
You didn’t even think to ask me why.

You showed me how time mends what is broken,
Though scars never completely go away.
But my work-outs have become less strenuous:
I haven’t even left the couch today.

Now I gorge myself on junk food memories.
Beer-battered sighs and chocolate covered regret
I have learned the heart is a lazy jogger,
But you I will never forget.
