Room to Move

Five months ago I was checking out a site for some info, saw the button at the top of the page “Create a Blog”, and since I’m something of a Daniel Boone, getting hopelessly lost and calling THE MAN, (Mark) to rescue me, I clicked the button and have been an Alice in a wonderland ever since. I was already keeping a journal, and this was just an extension: share some quotes, a couple thoughts, and quit clogging everyone’s Email boxes. Then I discovered cut and paste, how to post photos and videos, and sound widgets of my own music. And, just as important, I saw how many blogsites were out there, marvelous photo sites, people with most unusual ideas, to say the least, and a forum to present them.

Friends, even old friends, would say, “The Blog. What’s up with that?”
Well, it was always meant to be a celebration of Humanities, and celebrations mean fun. Growing up, I made little stapled magazines and books, complete with pictures cut out from magazines and, alas, some of my parents nicer books, reflecting an early attraction to publishing ---- and to this day nothing matches the magic of putting ink on paper. I’ve always been a frustrated writer and this has given me a chance to pretend I are one. When I was a boy, I would pretend I was preaching on Sunday; I admit from time to time I’ve been a bit preachy here, although I try to watch that. Above all, I like to play, to create --------whatever, whenever: there’s nothing like the kick of finishing up something that wasn’t there an hour, or a day, or a year ago.

Last month, I started a separate blog, just for Lenten thoughts, thinking that kind of reflection might get lost among all the other postings. I think that was a good idea. Over 200 people have visited the site.

You might have noticed a new link under “Blogography”. “Thom P. Miller Music” is a page I’m developing for my music and my thoughts about my music, that is midway between my “official” Music Site, and the zaniness of this blog. I feel I haven’t been focusing on my music enough, and I hope you will follow me there. It will be like a studio space, with works-in-progress posted along with some pieces not available on the other sites now, and eventually all the widgets on ERATO’S HIDEAWAY will take up lodging there,
The only disappointing aspect of all this has been a lack of feedback or contact from you who graciously stop by. Every cook wants to know the dinner didn’t kill somebody, and there isn’t an artist who, despite what they say, doesn’t want to know what you think. At the risk of losing what little anonymity I have left, I’m posting my Email link on the profile page. Along with the “comment” place after each posting, I hope this will encourage you to join in.

[Special note: there’s only a couple of you who know of the other blogs ----I like that : “THE SECRET BLOGS OF MORDIN!!!!” ---or at least you think you do. I’m always shooting off little comets into the sky.]

I encourage you to create your own blog. It’s really easy to get started, and whatever you have to say or show, someone out there will be interested. Create something. Go gently.
