Kalamazoo Asylum
When I was in high school, I took summer courses at Western Michigan University in
Kalamazoo. To get to Oakland Recital Hall on the Old Campus where my classes were, I had to walk every morning
near the hill on which the Asylum was built. I could see the towers and heard screaming all the time. (You can barely see a view of the campus from the tower in the video.) That memory and those screams have stayed with me through the years, reminding me how delicate the balance and fine the line we all walk, how fragile is the fabric we wrap ourselves in------ not just artists(although they are especially vulnerable) but all who realize there are other lives going on inside themselves.
